WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to today’s Supreme Court decision on Trump v. Barbara, upholding birthright citizenship, Comité de 100, issued the following statements:

Massey Villarreal, CEO and President of Precision Task Group, Inc., (PTG), Co-chairman of Comité de 100 said:

“Today’s decision protects the constitution and a promise that has defined America for generations. Birthright citizenship gives children born here the right to be an American and the opportunity to fully contribute as an American. This attack would have disproportionately impacted Hispanics. Latino children are the largest and fastest-growing child population with estimates that one in four children born in this country are of Hispanic origin. Hispanic voters are watching who respects our families and who uses them as political targets. Leaders in both parties should meet this moment with a balanced approach that secures the border, respects immigration laws, and protects Dreamers. They should also expand legal work permits and advance long-term bipartisan solutions, including the Dignity Act, the Dream Act, and agricultural solutions that strengthen both the economy and our society.”

Ramiro A. Cavazos, President and Chief Executive Officer of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), Co-chairman of Comité de 100 said:

“For Hispanic communities, this is not an abstract legal issue. Attacks on birthright citizenship create uncertainty for millions of Hispanic Americans that create businesses, jobs, and power America’s economy. The Hispanic business community in this country represents more than 5 million Latino-owned businesses that generate $800 billion in revenue for the U.S. economy. Upholding birthright citizenship is critical to the economic potential of this country.”

Sam Sanchez, CEO of Third Coast Hospitality, Co-chairman of Comité de 100 said:

“Upholding birthright citizenship means that millions of Hispanic children will grow into the teachers, nurses, entrepreneurs, and service members who fuel our nation’s progress. Hispanic voters are closely watching these political attacks and their direct impact on our daily lives and economic vitality. It is time for leaders to end these disruptions and advance bipartisan solutions, such as the Dignity and Dream Acts.”
